Thermal Mass

The thermal mass of a building is represented by the Thermal Mass Parameter (TMP) and is a factor when considering the internal temperature of a building in summer. It represents the capacity of building elements to retain heat and/or the potentail for overheating. The TMP is based on the characteristics of the construction elements via a mathematical formula involving the volume and floor area.  Windows and doors are omitted as they are treated separately.
