Condensation & Dewpoint Analysis

Increasingly building regulations are strengthening the ability of the home to retain the warmth which has been generated inside it, both to stem the use of fossil fuels which are fast running out, and to decrease the cost to the end user in the home.

This can prove to be a double edged sword, as higher insulation levels and fewer unwanted drafts not only help to keep the home warmer, they also help to increase the retained water levels in the dwelling via a natural process of condensation.

A high water content in a warm and not adequately ventilated environment can cause problems which affect both the fabric of the building, and the health of the occupant. Mould can not only degrade fabrics, including the fabric of the building and the expensive furnishings which you have paid for, it can also be lethal to humans in some forms.

AES Southern do not at this time undertake dewpoint analysis. The risk of inadequate ventilation, however, is part of the overall SAP calculation, and where inadequate ventilation is perceived, corrective measures will be suggested, preventing the problem in the first place being obviously better than a subsequent cure.
