AES Southern Limited provides energy calculation and associated services to the building industry.  At the driving end of the industry, its core business is in assisting builders to achieve compliance with Government Building Regulations.  The services offered include SAPs, Code for Sustainable Homes,  SBEM, & Air Tightness Testing and the production of PEA & EPC certificates. Complementary services include Sound Testing, Ecohomes & HIPs via partner companies.  AES Southern also provides a consultation and advisory service regarding the conservation of fuel and power, and is working hard towards a better future for all of us.

The company has grown along with the complexity of the legislation, and is at the forefront of the many businesses which offer this service. Since its inauguration at the introduction of SAPs the Company has completed thousands of Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) assessments, and has worked with, and advised, some of the largest developers in the UK.  The SAP calculations are prepared with meticulous attention to detail, referring to the most up-to-date documentation available.  Where the initial Design does not meet the required standards, AES Southern Ltd works with the client to achieve the desired end result – a sound, energy efficient, and compliant construction employing the most cost-effective means.

Moving Forward

When the Code for Sustainable Homes was first introduced, AES Southern Ltd took every opportunity to become familiar with the intricate and fast-moving objectives set by legislation regarding the need to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

AES Southern Ltd has a seat within the Zero Carbon Hub, a non-profit-making body sponsored by the Government to push forward zero carbon technology knowledge, research and legislation throughout the Buildings industry.

Code for Sustainable Homes is part of the move towards reducing the Carbon Footprint of each domestic dwelling (in total, providing a far greater figure than that used by industry), and whilst Code for Sustainable Homes is presently an option it is moving towards becoming mandatory. By the time this takes effect, AES Southern Ltd will be at the forefront of compliance knowledge and experience.

Professionally Fulfilling a Market Requirement

It is mandatory to have a calculation performed on any proposed new dwelling, commercial or Domestic.  It is also mandatory to provide an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) relating to the new build property, on completion.  The EPC is the end result of the calculation process and can only be produced via the software in which the SAP calculations have been performed.  It makes sound business sense to begin the process by engaging directly with a company which can provide the expertise and market knowledge to assist in the design stage, and also provide and lodge the necessary documentation to complete the process. AES Southern Ltd is fully accredited to produce Energy Performance Certificates.

Qualifications

AES Southern Ltd employs a team of accredited Energy Assessors who perform SAP calculations to a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.  The appointed Assessor will work with the client from the inauguration of the proposed development through to completion.  In-house consultation forms part of the internal procedure, maximising the varied skills of the team members, so no individual assessor is isolated with a challenging situation.  Years of achievement lie behind the in-house skills employed, and the company follows a strong training initiative backed by a progressive, skills-driven in-house monitoring system.

• Weekly in-house training sessions are mandatory for all employees.
• Any issues highlighted by any single member of staff are followed by impromptu update sessions with all staff members.
• Presentations are invited by outside companies to provide continuing knowledge on the hardware available in the building trade:  ie, thermal insulants, solar panels, PV cells, heat pumps, heat recovery systems, ventilation systems, etc  (The Companies invited to present their products do not become Preferred in any way, the products have to prove themselves).
• AES Southern manages its own in-house self-auditing system where random SAPS by each assessor are checked by another member of staff.
